Batik Painting Workshop were introduced to the art club members of Jurong West Primary School. 30 students from P5 and P6 (11 – 12 years old) were my students throughout the 8 sessions.

The session begins with an introduction about batik by my teaching artist Mr Dino. Students also learn about the myths of the batik cloth.

The students will use the tjanting and try applying the wax themselves. Students have to be extra careful, especially when there is hot melted wax on the table. Our instructors are on hand to keep reminding the students as well as guiding them the proper techniques.

Our teaching artist, Miss Su explaining the form teacher the process of wax removal.

The completed artwork after the colour had been fixed and the cloth boiled with hot water.
